JAG Events Calendar

Since its creation in April 2006 the JAG Investment Group has been actively involved in a number of business initiatives and social responsibility events. The following provides an overview of some of these.

As mentioned above, an important component of our JAG business is our social responsibility initiatives, which support and indicate the values of our organization.

Through sport and education we create opportunities for youth at risk. We promote role models and help and actively support initiatives that promote real and sustainable development.

03 April 2007

On Tuesday 3 April 2007 the JAG Investment Group officially launched the JAG Sports and Education Foundation. The launch took place in the Grand Ballroom of the Arabella Sheraton in Cape Town in the presence of nearly 300 guests including International and South African sporting personalities, representatives of SA government,representatives of various International and South African charity organizations, as well as members of the press.

The JAG Sports and Education Foundation was formed in order to give the youth of South Africa an opportunity to develop and achieve their potential through sport and education.

The main focus of the Foundation is on education and sport development at a grass roots level, giving the youth hope and encouraging young South Africans to dream and to transform their dreams into achievable realities.

The JAG Sports and Education Foundation has already formed alliances with a number of other foundations at a national as well as international level in order to share structures and programs and to cooperate on similar initiatives within developing communities in South Africa.

The new alliances were formed on 17 February 2007 at the JAG Sports and Education Foundation workshop, which took place at the Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town. Among the VIP guests were: Tegla Loroupe, the former half marathon world champion and the founder of the Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation, Christine Odalen from New York Road Runners Foundation, Gayton McKenzie voted as the 2006 SA best motivational speaker and Ashwin Willemse, Springbok Rugby Wing.

The main objectives for holding the workshop were:

  • To know and understand what other role-players are doing
  • To understand possible synergies and co-ordination
  • To align with the vision, mission and objectives of the Foundation
  • To commit to work with the Foundation and form alliances or associations
  • To agree upon a way forward

The workshop event was hosted by the JAG Investment Group, the founder of the JAG Sports and Education Foundation, and by Elana Meyer, SA Olympic medal holder and the Executive Director of the JAG Sports and Education Foundation.

15 December 2006

JAG welcomes and celebrates the return of the High School Touch Rugby teams from Trafalgar High School at an event held at the Cape Town International Airport. The boys’ team successfully defended their World Championship title and the girls’ team reached the semi-finals. Apart from family and press, the teams were greeted by the Minister of Education, Minister Cameron Dugmore, Mr Gayton McKenzie and JAG members. view images

JAG sponsored two touch rugby teams from the Trafalgar High School located in the historical area of District Six in Cape Town. With JAG’s support an under 18 boys and under 14 girls team went to the World High School Touch Rugby Championship in Singapore. A gala dinner took place at the Trafalgar High school, prior to the teams leaving for the Championships in Singapore. view images

JAG joined the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service and sponsored a golf day event in Cape Town. Funds were raised on behalf of the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service with the proceeds dedicated to medical equipment for use in the transfer of critically ill or injured patients in AMS fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft in the Western Cape. view images

26 November 2006

JAG was the main sponsor of the Soccer Development Day, held by the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Cape Town. The event was a tournament for 250 children from less privileged areas. The aim of the event was to emphasize the link between good health, exercise, sport and fun. JAG’s intention with regard to this event was to ensure that the children taking part obtained a great sense of achievement and to inspire the children to aim higher and to achieve more through sport. view images

24-30 September of 2006

JAG was a major sponsor of the Homeless Soccer World Cup which took place in Cape Town. So far the event has taken place four times in various locations around the world. The main objective of the Soccer World Cup is to create change among underprivileged communities by using sport as a tool. JAG’s involvement in the event was one way of demonstrating the company’s commitment to social change and to encourage all people to respond positively to homelessness. In addition to the main sponsorship and patronage of the Namibian Team JAG also sponsored the air flights for the teams attending from Kenya and Ghana. view images
